Osman Ruiz-Castro was arrested for killing Sanddi Cruz, 30, also of New Brunswick, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department.

On June 14, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m., authorities responded Seaman Street and Railroad Avenue following the report of a stabbing. Police found that Cruz had sustained multiple stab wounds to the chest. Cruz succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

An investigation by Detective Elfi Martinez of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Walter Kelley of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office identified Ruiz-Castro as the perpetuator. This was not a random act of violence, Ruiz-Castro knew the victim, the prosecutor said.

On Wednesday, June 22, Ruiz-Castro was arrested without incident in New Brunswick. He was charged with murder, robbery and a weapons offense.

Ruiz-Castro was being held in the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Martinez of the New Brunswick Police Department at (732)745-5200 or Detective Kelley of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732)745-3330.
